FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

We understand that while considering counseling, you may have come up with some questions. We’ve gathered the most common ones and given our answers below so that you will know what to expect before you come in for your first appointment. If you don’t see an answer to one of your questions, feel free to reach out to us.

WHAT TO EXPECT.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

A: When you are ready to schedule an initial appointment you can call our main line and schedule directly with our office manager. You can also email us here.

HOW LONG WILL THE FIRST SESSION TAKE?

A: That initial session typically takes a full 60 minutes. Sessions going forward will range in time from 45-55 minutes, depending on what is needed that week.

WHO WILL GREET ME WHEN I ARRIVE?

A: During our office manager’s hours, patients will be greeted by her. Outside of her office hours, your therapist will greet you directly. Please have a seat in the waiting room and they will be with you as soon as possible.

ARE THERE FORMS I NEED TO FILL OUT?

A: Yes! We have several intake forms that are standard for psychotherapy practice. These forms are filled out online on our portal prior to your appointment time. Once you are on the therapist’s schedule we will send you the information to get this completed.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME TO THE APPOINTMENT?

A: If you are using insurance, please bring your insurance card with you so that we can make a photocopy. Other than that, just bring yourself, an open mind and a willingness to learn new skills.

HOW EARLY SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

A: If it is your first appointment, it is best to arrive 5-10 minutes in advance to make sure you have time to find where we are located and verify we have all of the necessary paperwork. Also, get a copy of your insurance card. Please, however, complete the intake paperwork online before coming to your session.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY FIRST APPOINTMENT? DO I NEED TO “CHECK OUT” BEFORE I LEAVE?

A: After your first appointment there is no need to check out. If you have additional questions for our office manager please feel free to stop by and speak with her. If she is with someone or not there you can always call the office or send her an email here.

HOW OFTEN WILL I HAVE APPOINTMENTS?

A: Once your therapy begins, you and your provider will determine the optimal number of sessions and/or meeting times based on your goals and clinical recommendations. Most people attend therapy once per week or every other week. Consistency with scheduling provides the foundation for good progress in therapy.

HOW DOES SCHEDULING FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS WORK? ARE APPOINTMENT HOURS FLEXIBLE?

A: To schedule a follow-up appointment you can call our office manager and she will be able to get you scheduled. If she is unavailable please leave a message and she will get back to you. You can also email her here. Our providers all have varying schedules. They can change a few times a year to work around furthering education classes etc. Our providers are in the office Monday-Friday. Once you meet with your provider, you can find a scheduled time that works well for both of you.

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO BE IN COUNSELING FOR?

A: Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place.
