Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., an
expert on sexual addictions, estimates that between 3 to 6 percent of adults are sexually addicted. That computes to about
14 million Americans, many of whom are secretly struggling with their addiction while trying to live Christian lives.
Alvin
Cooper, Ph.D., noted researcher on cybersex, has described " the three As" of cybersex addiction: anonymity, accessibilty,
and affordability.
Anonymity
No longer do you have to sneak into
and Adult book store hoping nobody from church sees you leaving, or having your pornography sent in the mail in a plain brown
bag.
When on the computer at home or in the office
you feel in control and nobody sees what you are doing. Yet we know that our Heavenly Father sees everything and is grieved
when He sees us secretly commiting these sins.
Accessibilty
You can get in and out quickly often
times with just a punch of the computer key.
Affordability
At first cybersex is cheaper than
print pornography these sites
will entice you be
allowing "peeks" which graps your attention and before you know it you have given them either your check or credit
card numbers.
If your problem with cybersex is severe, and you realize you cannot control by yourself, consider the following:
Stay
offline
Have
an accountability partner.
Pray
for Help. Put postem notes on your computer such as: Matt. 5:8 "Blessed
are the pure in heart, for they shall see God"
Confess your sin. If you fall, quickly confess the sin to God and contact
your accountability partner.
Proverbs 28:13 states " He who coneals his transgressions will
not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.
